When the storms of life come thundering—and they will—I remind myself to put my oxygen mask on first. Without it, I’ll pass out and won’t be able to help anyone, including myself. I’ve put out many fires in my life while my own house was catching on fire. Too often, I’ve prioritized the wellbeing of others over my own needs, leading to burnout. Learning to put my oxygen mask on first has been vital in creating healthy boundaries. It means knowing when to step back, take care of myself first, and then attend to others. This practice has become essential for my emotional and mental well-being.
