Coping vs Managing
Share
There were times I thought I had things handled.
I told myself I was “dealing with it.”
Stress? I’d push through it.
Anxiety? I’d distract myself.
Bad habits? I’d say I had them under control.
But in reality… I was just coping with those things.
Coping is what you do to get through the moment.
The quick fix. The patch.
“I’ll deal with this shit later… I just want to get through it right now. I’ll get to the root of it later.”
And later never comes.
You stay busy to avoid sitting with what troubles you.
You numb your emotions.
You justify your habits, telling yourself, “this is how I cope,” while avoiding the real changes… avoiding responsibility and accountability.
It works… temporarily.
Until it doesn’t.
Because nothing changes.
You wake up carrying the same thoughts, the same worries… the same weight, day after day.
Managing is different.
It’s not escaping the moment.
It’s showing up for it.
It’s daily.
It’s awareness.
Because nothing stays the same.
What you felt yesterday isn’t what you feel today.
Your mood shifts. Your energy shifts.
So you adjust.
You don’t ignore it.
You don’t run from it.
You handle it.
You learn your patterns.
You recognize your triggers.
You catch yourself… or you reset and keep going.
That’s management.
It’s not perfect.
It’s a practice.
Every day you check in.
Where am I at?
What needs to be handled today?
Coping keeps you in cycles.
Managing moves you forward.
Coping avoids responsibility.
Managing builds ownership.
Coping is temporary relief.
Managing is stability.
It’s not one moment that changes it.
It’s consistency.
Day by day.
Choice by choice.
That’s what makes the difference.
