Don't give energy to what it was to how it has been to what it is

What Are You Giving Energy To?

You ever notice how easy it is to get caught up in what you don’t have?

What’s wrong. What’s missing. What used to be better.
Or how things have always been. Or how things are right now.
We give so much energy to what’s not working, we don’t even realize we’re feeding it, keeping it alive just by thinking about it.

We start carrying it like it’s who we are. Like it’s permanent. But it’s not.

In reality, that mindset kept me stuck more than it ever helped me move forward.

A while back, I remembered something I learned from the late Wayne Dyer. And this time, it wasn’t just a quote. It was something I could actually use.

Don’t give thought or energy to what it was, to how it has been, to what it is, unless you want more of that.

That line became a checkpoint for me. And it’s taken serious unlearning to live by it. Most of us don’t even realize we’re doing it. I didn’t. I thought I was just being honest. Keeping it real.

Truth is, keeping it real was keeping me stuck.

I was just looping the same mess. Different day, same story.

Don’t give energy to what it was

The past has a sneaky way of sticking around if you don’t catch it.

I’ve sat with old memories, regrets, stuff I thought I’d already moved on from. Letting them run in the background like noise I forgot was still playing.

But that version of me? He’s gone. My reality now is different.

Replaying it won’t heal it. Reliving it won’t fix it. Dragging it into today just drains me.

So when I catch myself drifting back into what it was, I remind myself, I don’t live there anymore.

Don’t give energy to how it has been

This is where I used to live. Right here. In the patterns.

“I’ve always been this way.”
“This is just what happens to me.”
“Things are always like this.”

If I want something new, I have to stop repeating the old stories.

I’m not denying what I’ve lived through. I’m just not going to keep it alive by dragging it into my present.

Don’t give energy to what it is

This part takes practice. Daily.

Because whatever is happening right now is loud.
Money problems. Stress. Relationships. Health stuff. Body pain. Mental noise. All of it is real.

The question is, what are you doing with it?

I can be aware without being consumed.

Presence is power.
Not everything that demands your attention deserves your energy.

The discipline is in the attention

Every thought is either fueling what you want or keeping you tied to what you’re trying to leave behind.

So I ask myself:

Do I want more of this?

If the answer is no, I let it go.
I shake it off.
I say, “This isn’t mine to hold anymore.”

I don’t just sit with misalignment. I move it out.
Then I move toward what feels clear, grounded, and true.

If the answer is yes, I stay with it.
I breathe into it.
I water it.
I build on it.

I am owning it.

Close the loop

Wayne Dyer said, “You don’t attract what you want. You attract what you are.”

And what you are is shaped by what you focus on.

So ask yourself:
What am I thinking about all day?
Do I want more of that?

If the answer is no, cut it loose.
Let it go.
Even if it’s just for today.

That’s the shift.
That’s the move.
