The Spiritual Shower Ceremony: casting away what no longer serves me.

The Spiritual Shower Ceremony
This is a beautiful ceremony we participated during my Iboga journey in Costa Rica. It was done by the river to cast away what no longer serves us. The area is cleared by performing a praying ritual and placing candles. The participant is brought to the edge one by one to perform the ritual by a facilitator. I was asked to say my name, and each of my parent’s full name while holding a special leaf they have collected earlier. Then I was walked inside the water just above ankle deep. Then was handed a bigger leaf and asked to speak from heart to the leaf telling all the negative things I want to get rid of, remove what no longer served me. Then the facilitator went in a sweeping motion through my body and crushed the leaf dropping it in the water. He began chanting me while scrubbed my head and face around the eyes with a fistful of leaves. He continued down the chest from my arms up to chest and back down, away pounding twice in my heart. He handed me the first packed leaves asked to kneel down. Finally, he showered my body to close cleansing ritual. I walked back and behind a rock and removed my shorts and t-shirt and left them there. I changed my clothes and walked up the trail without looking back. It’s done!
Bassé!
